Winter Solstice is coming up on December 21st and we want to be sure your home and your car are prepared to brave the elements. Below is a check-list of things you should consider taking care of before things get too chilly outside.

At Home

  • To Take Care Of Potential Water Woes – Have You:
    • Turned off your exterior faucets
    • Removed hoses
    • Showed everyone how to shut off the main water valves
    • Installed a whole house water leak detection system
    • Made sure your gutters are clear of leaves and other debris
  • To Protect Visitors – Have You:
    • Stocked-up on ice melt and salt
    • Tested your snow blower
    • Pulled shovels out of hiding
  • To Prevent Fires – Have You:
    • Had your chimney inspected
    • Double checked your smoke detectors and changed the batteries
    • Reviewed the locations of fire extinguishers with all family members
  • To Keep Your Home Warm & Cozy – Have You:
    • Checked weather stripping around the windows and doors
    • Doubled checked your oil or propane levels and updated your maintenance contract
    • Be sure you attic is well insulated and ventilated

On the Road

  • Stocked Up On Auto Supplies – Do You Have
    • A brush & ice scraper in your vehicle
    • Snow/winter tires
  • Checked Things Out – Has Your Mechanic
    • Topped off anti-freeze & windshield washer fluids
    • Checked your tire pressure
    • Replaced your wiper blades
    • Checked to be sure your heat & defroster are fully functioning
