For as long as I can remember, I’ve watched my parents give back to causes within the community.  This philosophy of paying it forward has always been important, so much so that when they founded their company, it became a central part of the core beliefs of Advocate Brokerage.

Personally, Jeff and I love the mission of Greyston Bakery.  Greyston provides jobs and resources to people who face barriers to employment.  As they share on their website:  At Greyston Bakery, if you want a job, we give you a job.  No questions asked.  What inspires me the most is that they focus on helping one individual at a time improve their life by creating opportunities for them to work.

In our own way, Advocate Brokerage gives back to this community in which we live and work.  This month, for example, we will be supporting the Concours d’Elegance and Backyard Sports Cares.

First, on October 7th, we will be co-sponsoring the Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance with our friends at Chubb.  This is an annual event held in the Scarsdale Village Center that celebrates classic and antique automobiles while raising money for some great local causes.  This year the money raised will benefit the Scarsdale Edgemont Family Counseling Service, the Scarsdale Police Benevolent Association and the Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corporation.  If you love classic cars, Scarsdale and giving back, it’s a great event so we hope to see you there.

Second, on October 14th we will be sponsoring Backyard Sports Cares’ 3×3 Basketball Tournament which will be held at the Westchester Community Center. Backyard Sports Cares is an organization that my family and I have watched grow up over the years and we really appreciate the work of its founder Danny Bernstein as he puts people together to improve the lives of kids.  The Tournament is a great event.  It is really wonderful to see people from the community come out and do something good and have fun at the same time!

There are many studies out there that will tell you that doing good, does you good, so I guess I am lucky this is something that was modeled for throughout my life.  I encourage you all to find a cause you feel passionate about and support it in whatever way you can.  It will enrich your life.
