Summer is almost over, the kids are back at school, and cooler weather is on its way. This upcoming change of season is the perfect time to review your insurance coverage and handle a few seasonal maintenance tasks that will keep your home safe and secure all year long.

Home

One of the most important things you can do as it relates to your insurance is to make sure that your coverage is up to date. If you’ve recently made an addition or major upgrade to your home, let your insurance company know. This should include remodeling, pool or spa installation, or updated roofing material. Further, touch base with your insurance Advocate if you’ve made any major purchases, including jewelry, art, wine and spirits, to ensure these items are properly covered by your homeowner’s insurance.

This is also the perfect time to review your deductible and adjust coverage limits.

Home Maintenance

Even if you make no changes to your insurance policy, the cooling weather gives you an open opportunity to perform a few maintenance tasks that will mitigate potential damages throughout the season. These include cleaning your drains and gutters, having the roof inspected for potential weaknesses, securing your outdoor furniture and grills, and trimming trees and shrubs.

Automobile

Whether you have a single personal vehicle or a garage full of luxury automobiles, it’s also time to review your auto coverage. Let Advocate Brokerage know if your driving habits have changed, if your kids should be added to your policy, or if you’ve begun using vehicles marked as personal for business purposes. Like with your home, you’ll also want to review your coverage to confirm you have proper liability, comprehensive, and collision insurance.

If you haven’t already, schedule an appointment to have your oil changed, tires checked, and other preventative maintenance items marked off your to-do list.

Additional Considerations

When it’s time to reach out to your Advocate, you’ll also want to touch base on whether you have the right types of insurance for where you live. For example, with the rise in extreme weather, it might be time to look into flood insurance. Further, to protect your assets beyond your home and auto coverage, consider a higher umbrella liability limit.

At Advocate Brokerage, our goal is to ensure that you are insured. Give us a call today and let one of our experienced home and auto Advocates review your coverage.
